Rush: We need segregated buses

Rush Limbaugh is trying to continue to keep whatever dwindling audience he has left by making another outlandish racist remark.

From Rawstory

In a remark extraordinary even by the standards of conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, the right-wing radio heavyweight declared on his program Wednesday that the United States needed to return to racially segregated buses.

Referring to an incident in which a white student was beaten by black students on a bus, Limbaugh said: “I think the guy’s wrong. I think not only it was racism, it was justifiable racism. I mean, that’s the lesson we’re being taught here today. Kid shouldn’t have been on the bus anyway. We need segregated buses — it was invading space and stuff. This is Obama’s America.”

The final sentence is really the betrayal of his obvious racist thoughts and what he wants his listeners to come away with. The implication here is: "Do you see what happens when you make a black man the most powerful man on the planet?"

Limbaugh is no fool. He knows how to stir the pot and he I am giving him the attention that he seeks. Will I ever learn? Probably not. I wonder if there was a black student beaten up by a bunch of white kids, or a gay student beaten up by a bunch of straight kids if Rush would have stated the same opinion?

Bottom line

I listen to Rush just about every day. When he spoke about this he was being facetious! He is NOT a racist! This IS the media trying to make conservative talk show hosts look bad...because they are exposing this administration for what it IS... ie. ACORN!!!!!

Via Facebook: Tim Larkin remarks:

Limbaugh's segment was sarcasm, the segment in its entirety shows this. His point was the ease & frequency the charge of racism is being thrown around.

Pres Carter accusing Obama critics of being racist. Racist cop arrests Prof Gates. ACORN sting was racist. Newsweek cover story on racist white babies. Joe Wilson wouldn't have shouted "You Lie" were Pres Obama white (btw Obama proved Joe Wilson correct http://tinyurl.com/ps2ovy). This was his point, the race card is being thrown in every manner imaginable. Instead of moving beyond race after Obama's election, we're focused on it more than ever.

Please listen to the show before forming such strong opinions. Or don't listen but be cognizant of words out of context & their source. Sure no one here knows me, but I would not listen were these accusations remotely true.

Folks--

Um I did listen to the show. Sarcasm can still be overtly racist which he clearly is trying to be at least in a "let's stir the pot and get phone calls because I have no audience" way. And my remarks still hold even if he was "joking". He wouldn't remark at all if the kid were black or gay--it would go unnoticed. And he's clearly trying to portray Obama as being a "dangerous precedent" because of his race. "Do you see what happens when you elect a black man?" is still the point he wants his listening audience to come away with and they are all too willing to let him "interpret" this story for them.

The ratings boost comes from a severe drop in people listening to traditional radio in general to give him a greater cume of the overall listening audience so his numbers really haven't increased. 653,500 listeners is probably half of what he'd expect to have in NYC 5 years ago when he'd have more than a million easy.

Wow, I just found your site off of Faith and Family and really enjoyed your post about Kids in Mass, but this post left me cold. I heard Rush the day he made those comments. He very clearly used that statement to make a point about the media and other political figures calling all of us who disagree with the President racist. For you to attribute racist thoughts and ideas to a man who has said and done no such thing puts you in the league with Maureen Dowd.
I've enjoyed Busted Halo for a few months and was exicted to find your blog. But I don't expect to return given your propensity to call others racist without proof. It shows a distinct bias and prejudice of yours against a whole section of the US public, of which I am a member.

Without PROOF?! Are you kidding me? Let's not be naive here. Rush has said several things for years that are overtly playing the race card in the effort to get cheap ratings. One can only conclude that those are his true feelings since he continues to do it.

His comments on Donovan McNabb are a good place to start when he was on the Monday Night Football crew. And if he really thinks that this is about the media than there was no reason for him to resign.
